About Ihaia Te Ngārara
Bush Advocate, 30 June 1904 Ihaia te Ngarara, one of the principal chiefs of this district, died at Tahoraiti pa last night. The deceased chief held large interests in the Tahoraite, Tamaki, Tiratu, and other blocks of land. He was greatly esteemed as one who had been consistently friendly to the Europeans. He leaves two daughters Paraneha Te Ngarara & Katipo Te Ngarara Ihaia, and five grandchildren by his son, Takarei Ihaia (1860-1922), who died some time ago. - Te Ngarata was born 1828 in Okurehe, Hawkes Bay. He married Atareta (Paora) Te Rangi Whakaewa who was born in Dannevirke 1830
