About Ilse Jooste
Ilse Jooste (1987 - 2001)
Brief overview:
Ilse (14), and her mother Lynette Jooste (40), were shot dead on their farm in Kromdraai, near Krugersdorp, around 14h30 on 15th October 2001. A single male invaded their house. Lynette's older daughter, Yolende (16) was also shot, and in a critical condition.
West Rand police spokesperson Captain Paula Nothnagel said they had just arrived at their farm from Monument High School when they were attacked. Nothnagel said Ilse went to her room and when she re-appeared, she saw a man holding her mother hostage. "She turned around and ran towards the safe in the house, as she was trained in using firearms. "The man followed her and ordered her to hand over the keys to the safe, from which he took a .22 pistol and two .38 revolvers. "He then shot Ilse in the stomach and the chin. She died at the scene. "Lynette was hit in the side and chest and also died at the scene," Nothnagel said. Yolande, was shot three times - in the leg, rib and chest.
Paramedics took more than 30 minutes to stabilise her, then she was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition, and in a coma.
The murderer also shot their dog dead.

"The province cannot allow violent crimes against the rural community to continue at this destructive pace."
