About Imaam Jainudien van der Schyff
Obituary in "THE MUSLIM OUTLOOK" 29th August 1925 There passed away on Sunday last at Claremont in the person of Imaam Janiudien Vander Skyff, one of the oldest residents of that suburb. As become the office which he so ably adorned with his delightfull urbanity, his was indeed a venerable figure in the community to which he diligently and energetically ministered. In his chaste life he nobly exemplified the principles of Islam and consequently gained the affection and esteem of a large circle of non-Muslims,who will also miss the genial friend who always had a word of cheerfull greeting, and who by his kindly disposition, did much to make all with whom he came in contact realise that Islam is above all the Religion of peace. He had been on pilgrimage to Mecca severall times, and never failed to impress upon those to whom in his Imamate he did service, the value of that Pillar of Islam that helps so greatly in fostering the spirit of Brotherhood-Haj. He was an uncle of Sheik M.S.Hendricks of Az-Zavia Capetown, and was a wellknown figure Throughout the Peninsula. Of him we can say : He was a man
* According to the diary kept by Imam M Saleh Saban of Simonstown, of which the original is kept at the Simonstown Cultural Museum he said that "Sunday morning 23rd August 1925 Emam H Jainodien Van Der Schyff of Main Rd Claremont died."
