About Infant son Basse

His birth is recorded as both Jan 17 1629 and Jan 17 1630 because of the way in which the colonial calendar was calculated. Back then the new year began March 25 not January 1 as it does today. So March 24th was 1629 and March 25th was 1630 and what they called January 17 1629 is what we now call January 17 1630. Very confusing. But there was only one infant son that was born and died on January 17, Various records say he was the 13th child of Nathaniel and Mary Basse and Mary died in childbed attempting to give him life. Mother and son were buried together in Virginia. And with her death there could be no 14th child. In the old calendar his date of birth and death would have been written 17 January 1629/30, using our modern calendar it is 17 January 1630
