About Ingemar Jonsen (?) Traavik

22feb2024 Update: Ingemar is first noted in the 1911-13 Kvinnherad knekteskatt15-17 as soldat "Engemoer Traauig" in 1611-1613 with 2 land owner/users sponsoring him: Halvor Berge (Olve S.) and Amund Kallestadt (Husnes S.). This informs that Ingemar was a soldier during the Kalmar war with Sweden. In 1615 there is a another Danske record for Strandebarm that similarly shows land user/owner support for a soldier "Ingemar Jonsen (20aar)" with financial sponsor being Svein [Amundsen] Skjelnes. It has long been thought that Ingemar Traavik was son of an Ole or a Lars. But this record, if it is the same Ingemar, indicates that he was Ingemar Jonsen Traavik. In support of this, we see both "Erland j Throuigh" paying skatt and "Joenn j Throuigh" noted as a "halffpartten jordeigener bonder". It is tempting then to think that this Joen Traauig was father or perhaps great-grandfather(?) to Ingemar Jonsen Traavik. Jon must have been a young adult in 1563, so born perhaps around 1540. Assuming a son Ingemar born between 1590 and 1595, he would have been 50-55 years older than Ingemar. There is no Jon noted at Traavik in 1590, just a Lars and Tore. It could also fit that Lars and Tore were adult sons of Jon and that Jon was at another farm before 1590. It would also fit that a young son of his, born in 1595, might find himself farming at his uncle's farm in his late teens and then becoming a soldier in 1611.

But who would this Joenn Traauig have been?
One possibility: Jon paa Skorpo, father of Johannes Jonsen who had odel in several properties in the area including Traavik. lensmann Willum Johannessen (g.m. Anna who also claimed odels rights in Traavik) sued for odels rights in Traavik in 1599. This Anna may have been a daughter to Jon paa Skorpo.

Another possibility: A Jon, son or grandson of Ingemund Dysvik (br. Dysvik 1519). In 1563, Dysvik taxpayers were Haldis and Lauritz (presumed son). They may not have been related to Ingemund. By 1590, Lauritz is no longer noted at Dysvik, but we do see a Lars and Tore at Traavik. Perhaps Ingemund Dysvik > son Ole > son Jon > Ingemar Traavik.

In 1599 odels case, we see a Henrich Henrichsen and Hellie Olsdatter claimed odels rights in Traavik. Hellie claimed she had those rights for 60 years. Hellie was 3x married, first to Lauritz Nielsszen, then Henrich Henrichsszen, then Arrild Sigurdsszen. Hellie seems a likely nickname for "Halldis", the name Ingemar gave to one of his datters. She could have been the same as Halldis Dysvik (sk.1563) who appeared to be enke then with son Lauritz. She must have been born before 1545.
Ole > Halldis [Olsdatter] Dysvik (fca1630,d.>1600) > Berte (f~1560?) > Inger Traavik (f~1590?, g.m. Ingemar)
Ingemund Dysvik > Ole? > Jon [Skorpo?] > Ingemar Traavik

We see Ingemar in the Landskatt between by 1617 along with Lasse, Laurits or Lars. And as soldier he was there by 1611-13.
We see Lasse noted at Traavik in taxes back to 1597 or earlier.
Bygdebok notes 1590 users at Traavik were Lars and Tore.
Given the claims by Hellie Olsen of 60 years odels rights, this Lars and Tore may have been sons or sons-in-law to Hellie Olsen, one of which, Lars, continued living there thru 1624.
So, Ingemar Traavik appears to be the son of Joen Traavik, born elsewhere (perhaps at Skorpo across the Fjord), then married Inger [ presumably datter til Lars Traavik ] and lived there. Inger's mother, married to this Lars, could have been Berte, daughter of Halldis and either Henrich or Arrild noted above.

Ingemar could have married shortly after miliary service and had a first son "Johannes" that by 1645 was noted as being at Traavik, married to Anna and with son Lars.

  • There was a Lars Traavik purchasing "Storum i Os" in the 1640-50 timeframe from at least 1 of the same owners of Traavik at that time: Lauritz Hjartaaker lensmann Laurits (Lasse) Hjartaaker. We see a Laurits there at Storum in 1647, plus 2 enke?: https://www.nb.no/items/5213e34e6ef0c0787c2b49a5d588e143?page=15&se...

      • looking into this: 1664 Tingbok: Skanna materiale: Samling av fulltekstavskrifter, SAB/FULLTEKST/A/12/0011: Sunnhordland sorenskriveri, tingbok nr. A 11, 1664 - Skanna arkiver - Arkivverket (digitalarkivet.no) : "Lauritz Roelssen Thraauig selling his odels rights part of Storimb I Ous to Mouatt, et.al. in 1658."
*** Based on his name and this being regarding Storem, Lauritz is apparently a great-grandson or great-great grandson of Rolf paa Storum (br.1519). This is interesting given bygdebok offers no certain connection between him and the following owners, Nils and Ole though it is presumed they descend from Rolf. The next owner at Storum is noted as a Nils that they don't know where he came from. Given Ingemar Traavik does not pursue odels rights w/Storum, it's not clear they are related at all.

Laurits "Lasse" Ingemundsen(?) Dysvik (br. Dysvik 1563) may be the same as Lars Traavik (br. Traavik 1591). His mother Halldis paid skatt in 1563 at Dysvik, so Laurits was probably young, perhaps born 1543-1563).
He could have been son or grandson of Ingemund (skatt1519 Dysvik), born between 1480 and 1500.
