About Ira Sherwin Haseltine
He was the Iowa House of Rep state of Missouri. He founded the Richland Center in Wisconsin.
In 1854 he was a Republican Delegate to the State Convention.
A National Convention Delegate to Chicago 1860. He was Assemblyman in 1867.
Elected as a Republican to Congress in 1880, serving one term March, 1881 to March, 1883.
Ira Haseltine laid out the town of Richland Center, Wisconsin. His father was named Orien Haseltine, and his grandfather Amos was a soldier in the Revolutionary war. Ira Haseltine was very successful business man. He purchased several sections of land in Richland county, Wisconsin. He built the court house at Richland Center and he donated the land and building.
A Republican, he attended the convention in which Abraham Lincoln was nominated for his first term as president. He was elected to the Wisconsin state legislature in 1867.
In 1871 he moved his family to Missouri a milder climate. After re-locating in Greene county he planted expansive apple orchards, and was known for giving it his close attention. This made him famous as an Orchardists of the Ozarks. He planted and owned the first large commercial orchard in Missouri containing ninety acres of land. Eventually adding to this until he had an orchard of one thousand six hundred acres which he owned at the time of his death.
An active interest in public affairs, in 1880 was elected a member of Congress on the joint Republican and Greenback ticket.
