Married Wesley C. Hicks, son of Joseph E. and Eliza A. Hicks. Wesley was born in Colrain, Franklin County, Massachusetts in 1840. Wesley and Irene were married on February 2, 1867 in Monroe, when he was 18 and she was 16. His occupation on their marriage record is "Farmer". On the 1870 US Census, the couple was living in nearby Adams, Massachusetts with their on-year-old daughter, Evalina. Wesley's occupation was "Laborer".

Note: According to Irene's death certificate, she was the widow of Wesley Hicks, but they must have been divorced sometime between 1870 and 1880. The 1880 US Census shows 31-year-old Wesley living in Adams with his 19-year-old wife Martha and his father, Joseph E. Hicks.
