Iris Botting, [twin of ?]

Iris Botting, 88, was added to the earthquake death toll in February. She had been ironing at her home on the fifth floor of the now-demolished Bishopspark Retirement Village on Park Tce when the earthquake threwher to the floor. She suffered a fractured knee cap, broken wrist and cracked ribs when she fell and died as a result of her injuries on March 6. Her son, Trevor Hansen, 67, said Iris was never the sort of person who would let the grass grow under her feet. He always thought his mother would recover from her injuries after the quake. Up until about two days before she died she was going to be up and about but then it was like she just decided she had had enough and then she was gone, he said. He described her as fit, active and independent. She loved the oldies walking club, bowles, tai chi and things like that, even at the rest home she would walk, she had no problem oing up and down the stairs she was always active. Iris grew up in Ashburton where she married her first husband Richard. He died in the late 1950s and the family then relocated to Christchurch.She is survived by two sons, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
