About Isaac Hammond, II

(IV) ISAAC HAMMOND, (Isaac3) b. Newton, Mass., July 31, 1698; d. New London, Conn., Oct. 26, 1755; m. Feb. 10, 1717, Mary Chamberlain, b. Jan. 20, 1693; d. Dec. 4, 1775; dau. of Clement and Mary ((???)) Chamberlain, of Billerica, Mass. There is a tradition that she was his cousin.

He purchased land, in Newton, of his father, on which he settled at the time of his marriage, but in 1721 he sold this land and removed to New London, Conn.

In 1734 he purchased a farm on Mohegan hill for œ660. Mohegan hill was later called the North Parish of New London, and in 1786 this parish was incorporated as the town of Montville.

Rev. David Jewett, a native of Ipswich, Mass., was ordained pastor of the church in this parish in 1739. A considerable breach occurred in this church before 1750, led by Isaac Hammond and his wife, who seceeded, and were called Congregational Separates, or Baptists, and their son, Noah, became a Baptist preacher. Isaac died about 1756

Feb., 1757, Adonijah Fitch and William Hillhouse, executors of the Last Will and Testament of Isaac Hammond, late of New London, petitioned the court for power to sell land to settle his estate. (Col. Records Conn., Vol. 10, p. 614.)

The records of their children were taken from the old family Bible now in possession of Thomas Hammond Saxton, of Port Jefferson, Long Island, N.Y.
