Isabel Oliphant, here treated, seems unlikely to be the same person as Isobel Oliphant
According to John Burke's Commoners, published in 1836, Isabel Oliphant, here treated, is the daughter of Lawrence, Lord Oliphant. Verifiable evidence is not cited, and it is not clear where this information came from. Commoners 114 The Dundas of Fingask website appears to have accepted the claim made by Commoners, although, once again. verifiable evidence is not cited. Commoners is not supported by John Maitland Thomson's account of the family, which was published in the Scots Peerage seventy-three years later. This makes no mention of a daughter named Isabel for Lawrence, Lord Oliphant. The Scots Peerage VI: pp. 540-43
