Isabel de Bohorquez Baca

Isabel Baca de Bohórquez came to New Mexico with her father in 1600.

Oñate lead a party into Kansas to search for the legendary Gran Quivara. Upon his return, he found that 400 colonists had deserted San Gabriel, the Spanish colony begun by the Oñate party. Those who remained were considered loyalists, and stayed on to raise their families in New Mexico. Isabel Baca de Bohórquez was among the Loyalists who stayed in New Mexico.

Ysabel married Pedro Gomez Durán y Cháves, son of Hernan Sánches Rico and Juana Martínez, in Nuevo Méjico, Nueva España. (Pedro Gomez Durán y Cháves was born in 1560-4566 in Valverde de Llerna, Estremadura, España and died before 1630 in Arroyo del Tunque, Nuevo Méjico. Nueva España.

Isabel was 40, more or less, in 1626, was literate, and owned a hacienda at a placed called Arroyo del Tunque in the area near the San Felipe Pueblo. She was likely Pedro's second wife since she was 20 years younger than he. We know her last name because it had been written that Don Pedro Durán y Chaves was the brother-on-law of Antonio Baca.
