A declaration filed by Isabella's brother John Short on Sept. 20, 1928 states:
Joseph Leonard Sanderson was born May 25, 1869 in Pilkington Twp, Wellington Co.
Father: Robert Sanderson, School Teacher, Salem, P.O.
Mother: Isabella Eliza Short
Physician: Dr. Padgett

The declaration reads:
I, John Short of the Village of Erin, in the County of Wellington do solemnly declare that:
I am the uncle of the person whose birth is desired to be registered
I lived on the adjoining farm at the time of the birth and saw my nephew within a day or so after the birth and learned from his mother, my sister, that he was born on the date aforenamed.
