Ismail Hussein Chirine

He briefly became Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Army, following Field Marshall Mohamed Haidar Pasha, before the Egyptian Revolution on July 23, 1952.

Born 17 October 1919 (d 1994) to Hussein Chirine and Princess Amina Bahrouz Fadel (1886–1947). His mother, who died in an airplane accident near Rome, remarried Ali Rateb from Alexandria and his father married Gulsun Hanem Aflaton. From the age of 12, he preferred to live with his aunt Zeinab Chirine, wife of Haidar Pasha.

Schooling included Victoria College, Alexandria, Madrasa el Masria in Cairo and the University of Cambridge.

When he returned from the United Kingdom he worked for the Bank El Ahly El Masry. Later he became an officer in the army, where his English language was useful during negotiations in 1948, together with Rahmani Bey who later became ambassador to Czechoslovakia. He was a member of Egypt's Rhodes delegation. He became Colonel and Field Marshall in the army.

He married Princess Fawzia Fuad of Egypt, the sister of King Farouk of Egypt. They had two children Nadia (1950–2009) and Hussein (born 1955). He lived the rest of his life in Alexandria, tending his property in the South of Egypt and spending summers in Switzerland, to allow his wife to meet her eldest daughter. He passed away in 1994.
