Israel Heilbot

After his marriage around 1562, Israel Heilbot, also known as the “große Israel”, was included in the contract which the council of the Altstadt had signed with his family in 1562. He soon left Hannover, because in 1563 he is mentioned as living on the Moritzberg in Hildesheim. In 1579 the tax records there mention his death (Rotraud Ries, Jüdisches Leben in Niedersachsen im 15. und 16. Jahrhundert (Hannover: Hahnsche Buchhandlung, 1994), pp. 64-65).
