About Israel Knöpfelmacher

Israel [Ignatz] Knopfelmacher, aka “Israel Joel Knopfmacher”, aka “Israel Knopfelmacher”, was b. in Nikolsburg, 1794, the only son of Joel and Barbara (Knopfmacher) Knopfelmacher.

The Knoepflmacher Stammbaum specifically refers to him as “of the Nikolsburg line”. He owned and operated a well-known Hebrew bookstore in Vienna, and was an editor. Israel Knopfelmacher became the director of a publishing house of Hebrew works. He and his family resided in household #451 in Vienna's Jewish section. Later, they are seen at Rossen 500. Israel Knopfelmacher died in Vienna on 4 April 1857, age 63 years.

He m. in 1st, in Nikolsburg, 1816, Hatti [Henrietta] [Katti] Pisling [the marriage index calls him “Israel Joel Knopfmacher”]. Nikolsburg marriage index: “Israel Joel Knopfmacher and Hatti Pisling, m. Nikolsburg, 1816.” They moved to Schaffa where she d. about 1826.

He m. 2nd, in Schaffa, Moravia, c1827, Maria [Merle] [Mirl] Deutsch, b. Schaffa, 1796, d. Vienna, 15 Sep 1866.

The Knopflmacher Stammbaum states the following about Israel Knopfelmacher: "Israel KNOEPFELMACHER, a descendant of the Nikolsburg line, had a well-known Hebrew editor's book shop, later by his sons, then by Josef SCHLESINGER, a son-in-law of Moses SCHREIBER (EGER ? -Schreiber=Sofer), later by Akiba (SCHREIBER SOFER ?), and now by his son Moritz."
