About Itka Landau Rajgrodzki

A Page of Testimony submitted to Yad Vashem by her sister Chana Landau in 1955 attested to Itka's death in the Holocaust about 1943. She was born in Ostrow, (later Ostrow Mazowiecka) in Lomza Gubernia 1898. Her maiden name was Landau and her parents were Pesakh Arie and Mardela. She was married and had two children, Simcha and Pesach, both of whom also were killed. Her occupation was housewife. Her last known address was in Ostrow Mazowiecka.

Another Page of Testimony, presented by professional translator and researcher Judie Ostroff-Goldstein for Itka's son Simcha, indicated that her full name was Itka Mindla.

She was memorialized in a heartfelt remembrance by Icchok Szlaski in his article that was included in the Yizkor (Memorial) Book of the Ostrow Mazowiecka Community. It was was published in Tel Aviv in 1960. The last part is posted here and reads:

. . .From one of the [Zionist] conferences, the noble character of Mrs. Jetka Rajgrodski is engraved in my memory. She was an active community worker, with a deep awareness and understanding of world problems Judaism, and Zionism. Her appearance at the conference aroused admiration and respect among the participants.

Her husband Pinchas Rajgrodzki was also memorialized in an emotional remembrance in another section of the the Yizkor book. It's posted on his profile. The last part of it reads:

His wife Jutke encouraged him and took part in communal activities with him. She was a member of the WIZO [Women's International Zionist Organization] committee and very active in the organization. They perished during the Holocaust with their two sons in Bialystok, hy”d.

Pinchas, his wife Itka, and their two sons Simcha and Pesach are memorialized in the Yizkor books for TWO Polish communities: Ostrow Mazowiecka and Wysokie Mazowieckie.
