Iva was born July 17, 1934 in Hillsboro, Texas to James Sanford and Eva Blanch Sheppard, both of whom were there to greet her in Heaven along with her beloved husband, Eugene Smith, daughter, Teresa Dell Armstrong, son, Greg Smith, and siblings: Rev. Jimmy Sheppard, Letha Joyce Green and Jenna Lee Boswell. Iva Dell was a dedicated wife and mother as well as caretaker to others. Her natural instinct was to always look after others and she did so while working at Colonial Hospital. There she was inspired to receive her certifications, at the age of 50, and become a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She worked at Terrell State Hospital for many years, becoming a well known and kind face around the hospital campus, where her compassion and care for the patients and their families were well known hallmarks of the hospital. After retiring from nursing, Iva Dell was able to spend more time with her family doing the many things she loved: shopping, going to garage sales, gardening, watching her beloved Dallas Cowboys, and spending many hours with precious family and friends. Iva Dell also truly enjoyed singing and was a member, most recently, of Central Baptist Church in Tyler where she looked forward to worshiping the Lord and thanking Him for the many blessings in her life. Iva Dell is survived by her son, Danny Smith, Sr., and wife, Cathy, of Tyler; daughter, Happy Janicek and husband, James, of Terrell; grandchildren: Danny Smith, Jr., Kevin Smith, Krista Penny, Shelbie Arredondo, Michell Maness; great grandchildren: Tracy Smith, Jordan Smith, Josh Smith, Adrian Castaneda, Raimey Penny, Mia Castaneda, Pavin Penny, Analicia Maness, Donovan Maness, Aubrie Lopez and Daxton Penny; sister, Jackie Bullock as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends. Funeral service will be at 2:00pm, Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with a private interment at Oakland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Friday, Sept. 11, at the funeral home. For those wishing, memorials may be made to the Mission Fund of Central Baptist Church at www.centraltyler.org.

Husband is William Eugene Smith, married, August, 1950 and is not recorded in Oakland Cemetery
