In Kvikne in Nordfron is the old family farm Harildstad. Kvikne is known as a high-lying steep and narrow valley, whose upper part, Skåbu, meets the mountain. This valley was probably before it was built, fully grown with forests and was a great place for hunters and fishermen, and probably those that were first cleaned and built here. A stone owl found there indicates that people have lived here for a long time.

Originally there were three Harildstadgårdar, but upigard was added to Harildstad in 1776.
