About Izabella Zabłudowska (Zwayer)

Iza's CV, translated from Polish by Margalit

I was born in 1909 in Warsaw. My father, a bank employee, in 1918, following the liquidation of the bank in which he worked, moved to Włocławek. In 1926, I graduated from the Władysława Aspis Highschool in Włocławek and enrolled in Wyższa Szkoła Handlowa (Superior School of Commerce), later known as SGH, in Warsaw. I completed my academic studies in 1930.

Until the war, I freelanced as a translator and literary editor for several Warsaw publishers. I was unable to secure a permanent position.....

In November 1939 I managed to get to Bialystok with my one year old son. My husband, Tadeusz Zabludowski, was already there, having left Warsaw in September 1939. In Bialystok, I workd in National Bank of the USSR. In 1941 I went to Minsk (Bielarus), where I worked at the Polish daily "Freedom Banner (Sztandar Wolności)" until the break of the German-Soviet war. Between 1941 and 1943, I stayed in the Tombow and Stalingrad regions, working at a nursery, then as a factory worker, and later as an office employee at a textile factory. In 1943, when the Związek patriotow Polskich - ZPP (Organization of Polish Patriots) was created, I was summoned to Moscow, where I worked in the editing room of the ZPP publication "Wolna Polska (Free Poland)", first as a proof reader, then as a literary editor, and finally as a column editor. In July of 1945 I went back to Poland. During the first few months I was employed translating Russian literature (into Polish), later I started working at "Polish Radio", first in the area of foreign broadcasts and then in Slavic broadcasts and finally as deputy director of the section, a position I remained in until April 1950. I was then requested to assume the role of deputy chief editor of the Polish edition of the Soviet weekly, "Nowe Czasy (New Times)", where I worked for a year. I have been employed as the deputy chief editor of the publishing house Czytelnik since April 1951.

While a student in 1926-1930, I belonged to the revolutionary student organization "Pochodnia (Torch)"....
