Jacob Frick, one of the best known and most enterprising businessmen of Wooster Ohio. He was born on his father's farm four miles southeast of West Newton, South Huntingdon Twp, Westmoreland county, Pa, on the 17th of September 1834. His parents were of German ancestry, his father Daniel Frick being in limited circumstances, and pursued the vocation of a blacksmith during the entire period of his life. Catherine Miller, wife of Daniel, had six sons and three daughters. Jacob was next to the youngest.

In 1855 he came with his father to Hancock, Ohio. He was married in November 1856 to Mrs Elizabeth (Shelly) Frick, widow of a cousin and the daughter of Jacob Shelly of Wayne County, Ohio. There were born to them five daughters and two sons. In 1859 he moved to Wayne County, Ohio. He engaged in grain, seed and wool business in 1862. Doing business $200,000 to $400,000 a year from 1862 to 1882. Taking W D Tyler as a partner in grain business, that became Jacob Frick & Co.

In 1880 following the death E Quinby, Jacob and several others purchased the Wayne County National Bank. He was made the president. He increased the capital stock to $55,000. He was a member of English Lutheran Church of Wooster in 1869. In November 1885 he was called to mourn the loss of his deepest friend in the death of his wife. He married again in May 1887, Miss Sara E Butler, of Massillon, teacher in the public school of that city. They had one daughter Helen on 5-18-1888.
