Records show that Jacob lived on and owned a farm between Greenville and Galena, is buried in a family burying ground near Galena, farm owned by a Mr. Rice. Information on file in Washington, DC; Jacob Garretson enlisted in Gloucester County, New Jersey Sept. 1776; served13 months as private at various times under Capt. John Summers, William Price, Robert Schnell, Sr., Robert Schnell, Jr., Decator and Enoch Willis. in New Jersey militia under Capt. Enoch Stillwell on board schooner "Hawk"; was taken prisoner and put in prison ship for one month; then exchanged. Also served three months under Capt. Summers on ship "Morning Star", taken a prisoner and carried to Charleston, S.C. there was put on prison ship and kept nine months, from which he made his escape. He also served at Brandywine, and at Valley Forge. He and his wife later received pensions. Pension Roll in Ind. Page 47 National No. 33294.
