Born in Edwardsdorf, Volhynia, Russia, son of Peter O. Graber and Freni Goering. He married Maria Graber daughter of Johann Graber and Maria Goering 11 Oct 1883 in Marion, South Dakota.

"Kernele" - Jacob, at age 8, began work with his brother Joseph at a brick factory 5 miles from his home in Waldheim, Volhynia, Russia. In Yankton, SD he was a hand laborer, livery stable operator and section hand on the railroad. - In 1883 they moved to PPr, KS. He was a charter member of First Mennonite Church. Jake spoke German, Russian, Polish & English fluently. He died of a heart attack.
