Born April 12, 1845 in Beuthen (Bytom), Upper Silesia, Gest. September 29, 1919 in Breslau. 1861-1870 first high school department at JTS Breslau, then seminarist; 1865 Abitur at the Elisabethaneum in Breslau. Studies at the Univ. Wroclaw and at the JTS; 1868 doctorate in Breslau, 1870 rabbi diploma. Made himself available as a field rabbi during the war of 1870/71, but found no use because the pastoral care of the Jewish soldiers was not organized. 1870-1872 religion teacher at the first religious community school of Dr. Bendix Samuelsohn, 1872-1874 First teacher at the religious school of Dr. Joel and in 1872 assistant preacher and religion teacher in Breslau. March 1874 State rabbi in Hildesheim. 1879 Application to succeed Josef Aub in Berlin. 1891 / 92-1919 Rb. of the New Synagogue and head of the III. Religious school in Breslau. Chairman of the board (1895-1900ff.) And auditor (1895-1900) of the industrial school for Israelite girls. Oct 1910 to 1919 chairman of the ADR. Liberal, member of the CV. Co-founder and temporarily deputy chairman of the Society for the Advancement of the Science of Judaism and head of the society's scientific endeavors; In 1911 he was awarded the title of professor. Member of the Aid Association of German Jews and the German-Israelite Community Association. 1892-1919 member of the Lessing Lodge UOBB member of the Association of Israelite Teachers in Silesia and Posen, board member of the Association for Jewish History and Literature; Member of the Hebrew Literature Association Mekize Nirdamim. In 1917 decorated with the "Cross of Merit for War Aid". Son-in-law of banker Jacob Simonsen, Copenhagen; his wife Beate was the sister of the orientalist and OR of Denmark, Prof. David Jacob Simonsen.
