Jacob married first, about 1774, to Elizabeth Lair or Lear or Lehrer.
Jacob and Elizabeth had the following children:
Jacob married second, about 1791, to Hannah Hawes.
Jacob and Hannah had the following children:
Alva Trumbo Wood, deceased, in her work, "Benjamin Trumbo of Brocks Gap VA" which she published in 2002, tells us that Jacob was enumerated on the 1790 Virginia Census. The 1790 census shows that the household consisted of 7 white souls, 1 dwelling and 1 other building (actually from 1784 tax lists).
In 1787 Personal Property tax, Rockingham County Jacob is listed with 4 horses and 22 cattle. 1789 he owned 150 acres of land in the Militia District 9.
Charles Feltner states in his book "The Trumbo Family" that "Jacob Trumbo signed a petition asking for a new county to be formed from Rockingham and Shenandoah on October 11, 1792. Alva Trumbo Wood, in her work, "Benjamin Trumbo of Brocks Gap, VA", states that the petition was rejected.
Jacob was a member of Captain John Rudell's Company # 11.
See the 1840 U.S. Census of Rockingham County, Virginia, where a Jacob Trumbo is enumerated. We find one man from 80 to 90 years of age, one woman from 80 to 90 years of age, one man from 40 to 50 years of age, one woman from 40 to 50 years of age and 7 children. It is our feeling this is Jacob and Hannah, and their son Jacob and wife Elizabeth Snyder and 7 of the younger Jacob's children.
In his will Jacob mentions the 'plantation I now live on and also my Miller place on the south side of the river', blacksmith tools, one hundred acres of land he owned in Licking County Ohio, heirs of his deceased daughter Dorothy Beggs, daughter Elizabeth Custer, son Mathias Trumbo, son Jacob Trumbo, son Andrew Trumbo, and heirs of son John Trumbo. His son Jacob was to take care of his mother." [See Benjamin Trumbo of Brocks Gap VA. for full transcription of Jacob's will.]
Jacob Trumbo, Jr. was granted Administration of his father's estate sometime between February 1, 1842 and February 1, 1843 according to a list that appears in the Personal Property Tax records of Byrd District, Rockingham County, Virginia.
