Jacob Jefferson Walter enlisted in the civil war in Company G., Iowa Calvary, in place of his father on the 22nd day of September, 1862 at Colesburg, Delaware County, Iowa. He died in the hospital in Sioux City, Iowa from the effects of wound received at Butte fo White Stone Hills , the final statement signed by Co. Comds, reports him, died at "Sioux City, Iowa, Nov. 17, 1863 of Typhoid Fever."
