About Jacob Jasper White

The family story of Jacob Jasper White's military service is an interesting one. As it is told, Jacob was with the Confederate Army and made comments about the "bad future" of the Confederate Army. A fellow soldier reported him and he was to be punished. Knowing the possibility of death, Jacob fled to the North and joined the Union Army. Jacob was said to be with General William Tecumseh Sherman during the march through Georgia. Jacob supposedly had such admiration for General Sherman that he named his son William T. Sherman White.
