About Jacoba Elizabeth Wilhemina Swiegers

Jacoba Swiegers (1950 - 2006)

Brief overview:

Jacoba (56), was overpowered and robbed, then kidnapped from her home on the Northdene Agricultural Holdings, Vanderbijlpark, on 15th June 2006. Her body was found 2 days later by the Police.

English translation from Afrikaans of the full report released by Beeld News Media (Broken link)

"Vanderbijlpark. Police were still searching for the 56-year-old woman from a smallholding outside the town who was allegedly abducted from her home the previous day. Mrs. Jacoba Elizabeth Wilhemina Swiegers was allegedly abducted in her own vehicle at around 19:00 at her house on the Northdene smallholdings, on the Barrage Road between Vanderbijlpark and Paris.

Inspector. Trudie Wilken, spokesperson for the police in the Vaal Triangle, said on Monday afternoon that the police had heard that Mrs Swiegers was home alone the night before, while her husband, Andries, worked night shifts at Sasol Infrachem. He apparently already felt restless at night and called his wife repeatedly, but she did not answer the phone.

Mr. Swiegers arrived home at around 06:30 yesterday morning and found the couple's house in a "terrible condition". According to Wilken when they entered the house through a security gate at the back door, they saw that the inside of his house was "turned over". "The house looked awful," Wilken said.

Mr. Swiegers immediately started looking for his wife, but could not find her anywhere. Wilken said Mrs. Swiegers was allegedly assaulted outside the house and abducted with the couple's four-wheel drive bakkie, a champagne-coloured Ford Ranger.

According to a preliminary investigation, a TV set, video machine and a DVD player are gone. The couple's only phone, Mrs. Swiegers' cell phone was also taken.

The last time Mrs. Swiegers was seen, she was wearing a green jacket and dark trousers. She has very light skin and is short and medium built. Mrs. Swiegers is apparently very fond of horses and at one stage offered horse riding lessons.
