Jacobus COURSIER / CORSSE was bpt. 6 Apr 1690 at the RDC of New Amsterdam, son of Jan COURSIER / CORSZEN and Metje CRAY. Witnesses were Theunis deKEY and Catherina der VAL. [The witness Teunis deKAY was husband of Helena VERBRUGGE, a granddau. of Pieter VanBRUGGE and Helena POTTAI who was related to the deCOURCY peerage of Belgium. Any connection between Jan CORSZEN and that European COURCY family is speculative. Ref: A 1973 Letter from Countess Xavier deCourcy of Paris, France t0 Wm. L. DeCourey. On 20 Oct 1701, Jan and Mettine CORSEN indentured their son, Jacob, to William BOGAERT, "Terner," of their City; and on 20 Apr 1702, he acknowledged and approved. Jacob subsequently married Adriantje KOEVERT and moved to Somerset Co., New Jersey on land that was part of the original grant of 1,904 acres to Captain Cornelis CORSSEN, the eldest son of Cors Pieterszen CORSSE and Tryntje HENDRICKS. Cornelis CORSSEN was the progenitor of the CORSON family of Staten Island and their descendants.
