Hugues enlisted (contracted) to come to Montreal (Ville Marie) as a sawyer of planks in 1653. He arrived on Nov 16, 1653. "Hugues Picard hired to clear land and as a sawyer in the spring of 1653 at 75 french [livre symbol] a year. He returned to France at the end of his contract but returned to Villemarie (Montreal) in 1659 as a carpenter fo the Supician Fathers."
Hugues is listed in the records of notary Begnigne Basset, beginning with his marriage contract in 1660. There is an "abritrage" of land between Pierre Richaume and Hugues. In 1668, there is a sale from Rene Perroux to Hugues, and in 1670, a sale from Maurice Averty to Hugues. In 1669, "compte de tutelle entre [Hugues] tuteur des enfants de Blaise Juillet". In 1672, there is lease for Hugues land to Pierre Lemetz. In 1674 and 1677, there are accords/echanges between Hugues and Urbain Boudereau and Pierre Lecuyer, respectively [husband's to his step daughters]. In 1677, there was a sale of Hugues concession to Antoine Duceau. In the notary records of Antoine Adhemar, he has an engagement for M. Balan dit Biron to Hugues. In 1690, he leased a cow to Antoine Moinet. In 1691, Jean Pottier and Toussaint Pottier engaged to Hugues. In 1693, Hugues and his wife made a sale to sons Jean Gabriel and Jacques, along with a delcaration in favour of their son Jean Gabriel. In 1707, there is a testament of Hugues. In 1708, there is a declaration of Mathurine Juillet to the heirs of Hugues.
