About Jacques Jean Joseph Marie Zwijsen
He was an artist and gifted piano player. He studied art in Paris and gave lessons as an Art teacher at high school in Eindhoven where he lived with his 9 children (1 son and 8 daughters)
He attended the ‘RK Leergangen’ in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Tilburg where he obtained the certificate for ‘M.O. tekenen’.
In 1920 he came to Eindhoven and became an art teacher at the Sint-Joris college and St. Catharina lyceum until his retirement in 1959. He mostly painted during the school holidays and travelled to Belgium, France and Spain. His topics are landscapes, cityscapes (including Thorn), still lifes and portraits including J.H.G. Jansen (1868-1936), archbishop of Utrecht.
He exhibited on a regular basis, for instance, in Concordia in 1930 and art dealer Irene in Eindhoven. Thanks to donations made by the people of Eindhoven, among others, mayor Anton Verdijk, dean Jos Maas, Anton Philips and others, his painting of the still life of the Japanese bibelots are included in the collection van the central provincial museum, now the noordbrabants museum in ’s-Hertogenbosch.
