About Jade Louise Bayliss

Killed by mother's ex-partner Jeremy George Edward McLaughlin. Tina Bayliss had split from Jeremy a fortnight earlier and approached police with concerns about his stalkerish behaviour four days before he killed her daughter. Tina was at work and Jade home sick from school when Jeremy broke into her home in Barrington Street at Somerfield in Christchurch to burgle it. Jade disturbed him and he strangled her with an electrical cord and stuffed socks in her mouth before leaving her dead on the floor of her bedroom. He later used petrol to set the house alight. It wasn't the first time Jeremy had killed. On 17 November 1995 friends Phillip Vidot (aged 14) and Tyron Williams (aged 17) were bashed with a cricket bat and run over with a car before being robbed. Phillip died hours later while Tyron was in a coma for eight days and still has brain damage. Source: https://debbiemccauleyauthor.wordpress.com/biographies/new-zealand-....

Faces of Innocents: Jade Bayliss had 'everything to live for' before she was killed: The last search Jade Bayliss made on her computer before she died was about the world's longest whale. It is indicative of who the 13-year-old was, her mother, Tina Lawson, says. A bright girl who loved facts and knowing everything about anything. "She was everybody's best friend. I miss her so much," Lawson says. Jade was murdered at her family home in the Christchurch suburb of Somerfield in November 2011. Much has been written about the case, which sparked calls for law changes, but little has focused on the teen's life. Jade was born in Oxfordshire, England, on March 2, 1998. She was the eldest of three children. (Her mother is expecting another child soon.) The family moved to New Zealand in 2006, after Jade's father, Gary Bayliss, was offered a job as a fire technician for a company in Christchurch. They lived in Rolleston. Jade's parents eventually separated and she lived with Lawson at a house in Barrington St, Somerfield, next to the main entrance of Cashmere High School. Jade attended Christchurch South Intermediate and then Cashmere, where she achieved top grades in all her classes. Lawson said her daughter enjoyed going to school. "She was an academic. She loved learning." Jade was well-liked by her teachers. She didn't have a large circle of friends, but those she kept were very good ones. Jade's form teacher, Hayden Beaumont, remembered her as a quiet and hardworking student with a "friendly and warm disposition". She would have graduated last year, and Cashmere students paid tribute to her at a leavers' ceremony at the Isaac Theatre Royal. Lawson said that away from school, Jade was always on the computer "trying to find out facts". She would watch a lot of DVDs and documentaries. One of her favourite television shows was Miranda, an adult comedy. "She was a funny wee soul, very quiet, but she had a great sense of humour," Lawson said. She wanted her daughter to be remembered as a "fun-loving, intelligent young lady who was enjoying life". "She had everything to live for." Jade was strangled in her home by Lawson's ex-boyfriend Jeremy George McLaughlin, who stole items from the house and then set it alight. It was later revealed McLaughlin had previously been jailed for his role in the killing of a teenager in Australia in 1995. The case sparked calls for improved monitoring of criminals deported to New Zealand. McLaughlin was found guilty of Jade's murder and sentenced to life imprisonment with a non-parole period of 23 years. Source: https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/faces-of-innocents/81335277/faces-...
