Dear Randy,

I never heard of either Lazar or of Carl Frankel. My grandfather Jakob left Pressburg at age 13 when he was thrown out of the Bar Mitzvah prep. class. they were discussing how to properly welcome a guest, and the teacher began by saying one goes to the cellar and gets a bottle of wine. My grandfather asked when to do if you don't have a cellar? So he was thrown out, packed his renzel ( rucksack) and began wandering up the Danube. he would stop, apprentice himself to a Drechsler - ( lather worker) - and when he had learned enough, wander further north. In Nuernberg has went into an Inn- was told to ring the bell if he wanted a beer. As he did not hear the ring he rang several more times and then got 4 beers - for which he had to pay. Having paid he had to drink them. His tolerance is very low and he nearly undid himself..

On Nov. 10, 1938 the Nazi's did not take him away when they saw his diploma as a Dreckslermeister- they were only taking white color workers - but in 1942 he was deported to theresienstadt. and from there, presumably to Auschwicz.

Give my greetings to our Mother, Please.

Hanna
