About James Henry Taylor Bassett
James and Jessie first eloped and got married in Thames but their parents went and got them back and then they remarried in Auckland with the parents approval.
He came to New Zealand on the Pegasus in 1865 when he was 6 years old with his parents and brother Charles Frederick Bassett.
James was born in England and went to NZ when he was about 6 years old with his parents and brother Frederick Charles, who's son Cyril Bassett later went on to win the Victoria Cross at Gallipoli for valour. James and Jessie actually eloped and married in Thames but were tracked down and taken back to Auckland where they were made to remarry.
