Biography

James Bell is first mentioned in America when he took the oath of allegiance in New Haven Connecticut during 1655. He removed to Massachusetts but just when is not known and married Esther Lugg, daughter of John and Jane (Dighton) Lugg.[1]

His inventory was taken on 5 March 1676 and exhibited at the court at Plymouth on 5 June 1677 on the oath of Esther Marshall, late wife of James Bell, decd.[2]. She had married Richard Marshall.

He had these children born in Taunton:

1. Jane, April 4, 1658. Married Thomas Bell.
2. John, August 15, 1660
3. James, July 10, 1663. Married Hannah Pray.
4. Nathaniel, January 7, 1665
5. Sarah, September 15, 1666
6. Elizabeth, November 15, 1668. Married Samuel Crossman.
7. Mary, July 7, 1669 (?). Married Joseph Hall.
8. Joseph, June 27, 1670
9. Esther, August 15, 1672. Married John Hall.
