James V. Benton Sr.
James V. Benton Sr., 86, Jeffersonville, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2007, at his home.
Born in Tennessee, he was a watchmaker and jeweler, the owner and operator of Benton Fine Jewelry for 55 years, an Army paratrooper during World War II, and a member of Jeffersonville Lions Club, VFW, American Legion, DAV, American Watchmakers Association, Retail Jewelers of America and AARP.
Survivors include his wife, the former Betty Metzmeier; a son, James Benton III of Jeffersonville; three daughters, Belinda Dennison of Corydon, Vicki Moore of Jeffersonville and Cindy Weber of Georgetown; a sister, Gerty Thompson of Jeffersonville; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Friday, Dec. 28, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Funeral: Saturday, Dec. 29, at 10 a.m. at the church with burial in Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Arrangements: Coots Funeral Home in Jeffersonville.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Sacred Heart Church or Serenity House.
