About James Blackwood, 2nd Baron Dufferin & Clandeboye

James Stevenson Blackwood, 2nd Baron Dufferin and Clandeboye was born on 8 July 1755.

He married Hon. Anne Dorothea Foster, daughter of John Foster, 1st Baron Oriel of Ferrard and Margarita Amelia Burgh, Viscountess Ferrard, on 15 November 1801.

He died on 8 August 1836 at age 81, without issue.

He was the son of Sir John Blackwood, 2nd Bt. and Dorcas Stevenson, Baroness Dufferin and Clandeboye.

He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Killyleagh [Ireland] between 1788 and 1800.

He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baronet Blackwood, of Ballyleidy, co. Down [I., 1763] on 27 February 1799.

In 1800 he was granted £15,000 compensation for the seat's being disenfranchised on the Union of British and Irish Parliaments, a measure he supported (unlike his father) and as reward his request that his mother be ennobled was granted.
