About James Bunce of Otterden
Not the father of Katherine Clark or of Thomas Bunce of Hartford
James Bunce, son and heir of John Bunce Esq of Ottrinden, Kent, was married to Elizabeth, daughter of Mathew Rayner. He died in 1606 and was buried at Ottrinden.
According to the Visitations they had the following children (6 sons, 2 daughters):
- Simon, eldest son and heir, married Dorothy Grimsditch of Cheshire August 1590, and died at Ottrinden in 1611
- Richard, died SP
- Matthew, died 1624 SP
- Ann, married Henry Elwin of Stacefield
- Margaret, married Thomas Southouse, yeoman of Throwley, in 1600
- Stephen, married Ann Barham, died 1634
- James, married Mary Holmsden, died 16 Jan 1631, buried at St Bennet's Gracechurch street, 14 Feb 1631.

James Bunce (1563–1632), of St. Benet Gracechurch, London, was an English politician. He was a Member (MP) of the Parliament of England for City of London in 1628.[1]. Family and Education b. 1563,1 yr. s. of James Bunce (d.1609), yeoman, of Otterden, Kent and Elizabeth, da. of one Reyner of Kent. m. 13 Jan. 1596 Mary, da. of George Holmeden, Leatherseller, of Brookehouse, Kent, 2s. 1da.2 d. 26 Jan. 1632.3
Bunce’s father lived in Kent and described himself in his will of 1601 as a yeoman. Well-to-do, he bequeathed more than £500 in cash and several tenements to his six sons. Bunce’s share of this small fortune was £210, of which he had already received £190 by the time his father drew up his will.8
