About Katherine Clark
Likely the sister of Thomas Bunce of Hartford . Given their birth year estimates, they were more likely to have been siblings or cousins.
The name of William's wife is (apparently) to be found no where in the records except possibly in John Winthrop Jr.'s medical journal. On 23 May 1664, Winthrop says that he treated "Clark, William his wife Katherine of Hartford". [Ref, p. 446] In his 3 Aug 1683 will Thomas Bunce left his sister Katharen Clark £10. [Ref, pp. 283-4] This suggests that William's wife might be Katherine Bunce.
Children of William Clark and Katheren Bunce are:
- i. SARAH5 CLARK, b. 1644, Hartford, Hartford, CT; d. Abt October 1711; Stepchild.
- ii. JOHN (SGT) CLARK, b. 1645, Hartford, Hartford, CT; d. 1731, Middletown, Middlesex, CT.
- iii. WILLIAM CLARK, b. 1648, Hartford, Hartford, CT; d. 1711, Wethersfield, Hartford, CT.
- iv. ELIZABETH CLARK, b. 1650, Hartford, Hartford, CT; d. 1712, Haddam, Middlesex, CT.
- v. MARY CLARK, b. 1651; d. December 24, 1673.
- vi. JOSEPH CLARK, b. 1653, Hartford, Hartford, CT; d. 1723, Haddam, Middlesex, CT.
- vii. THOMAS CLARK, b. 1657, Haddam, Middlesex, CT; d. 1746.
- viii. HANNAH CLARK, b. 1660; d. 1703; m. JOHN BATES, 1687.
- ix. Rebecca CLARK, b. 1655; d. 1681; m. WILLIAM SPENCER
Notes for Katherine Bunce
Thomas Bunce of Hartford, original settler at Hartford, left Katherine money in his will. They are often listed as the children of James Bunce of Otterden and Elizabeth Bunce , seemingly based on a manuscript at the Connecticut Historical Society. However, that pedigree is likely based on an 1830 book of Kent genealogies by Walter Perry. That book lists only 7 children of James, not 11, and does not include Thomas and Katherine. So there appear to be no concrete sources supporting their parentage.
Birth location seen as Otterdene, Kent, England. Removed.

- WikiTree contributors, "Thomas Bunce (abt.1612-bef.1683)," WikiTree: The Free Family Tree, (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bunce-48 : accessed 13 February 2024). In many genealogy family records, Thomas' parents are claimed to be known. But no sources are provided, and the PGM standard reference, Anderson, states Thomas' parents are currently unknown. So the 'fake' (unsourced) parents claimed here, James Bunce and Elizabeth Raynor, have been removed from the profile's ancestral links, and those links are instead placed here in the text as documentation. … It has been speculated that Thomas may have been from “Saybrooke, England” (Seabrook, Kent?), of English or Scottish ancestry.
