James and Martha lived in Tallapoosa Co., AL before moving to Elmore Co., AL between 1867 and 1869. James enlisted in the Confederate Army and served as a private with Co. B, 47th Alabama Inf. Reg't. He was wounded in the leg at the battle of Chickamauga, and was paroled in Montgomery, AL on May 19, 1865.
