James was admitted freeman on 5-4-1675 and was taxed 5 s at Newport in 1680. On 5-8-1701, he, then of Kingstown, sold land in Newport to Joseph Card of that town. James died no later than 1705 when administration of his estate was granted to his widow, Martha (N. Kingstown town records). Austin erroneously makes her the wife of John Garde. The first 4 children are probably from his first wife and the last two by Martha. Martha later married Jeremiah Fones on 11-9-1710 and had 5 more children: Mary, Daniel, Samuel, dau., and Thomas.
