James Christie was born August 16, 1758 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He married Sarah Lemmon on March 20, 1781 in Orange County, Virginia. James died in Shelby County, Kentucky on March 8, 1837.
James was a soldier in the Revolutionary War (DAR Ancestor #A021784), documented in his pension application W-9782. While a resident of Pittsylvania County, Virginia, he enlisted in May 1777 and served three months as private in Captain Donaldson's Virginia Company. He enlisted again in February 1779 and served until July 23, 1779 in Captain William Witcher's Company. His third enlistment began in March or April 1780 and was for 10 months in Captain Clement's Company of Colonel Faulkner's Virginia Regiment. James was present at the Battle of Camden, also known as Gates' Defeat.
At the time James received his pension on September 18,1832, he was living in Shelby County, Kentucky.
