Hornell- James "Charlie" Cook, 80 of 19 Conklin Street, Died Monday Oct 19, 1998 at St. James Mercy Hospital. Following a long illness. He was Born March, 19, 1918 in Alfred son of Leon and Estella Cook. He was married Oct 1, 1942 to Bernice Griffin who survivies. He was predeceased by a sister Gladys Cook and 2 brothers Harold Baldwin Edward Cook. Charlie had resided for over 54 years in the Hornell area. Earlier he was a firemanfor the former Erie Railroad in the Hornell yards.Later he was employed for 11 years at the former Corbin Wood Products in Hornell. Most recently he was employed by NYS College of Ceramics at Alfred University retiring in 1983. Charlie served with the US Navy the Asiatic-Pacific-Theater during WWII. And was a member of the Hornell United Methodist Church. He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. Survivors besides hi wife include 4 daughters Sandra {James) VanCise, Canisteo, Brenda (Warren) Cline, Addison, Darlene (Randie) Brewer, Hornell, Sheila (Robert) Brown, White House TN, a son Duane (Donna) Cook Arden NC. Three sisters Lois (walter) Berry Hornell, Thelma Greenthal, Hornell, Betty Main Kendall NY. 17 grandchildren 26 great grandchildren. 4 sister-in-laws Luella Barker, Anna Richardson, and Marie Griffin all of Hornell, Frances Griffin Arkport, several niices, nephews and cousins.
