James was born in 1699. He was the son of James Denton and Jane Titus. He passed away about 1728.

James was named in his father's will which was proved 3 Feb 1723. James Denton of Herricks, in Hempstead NY, Named wife Jane, sons James provided he reaches the age of 21, otherwise to nephew Samuel, son of brother Samuel Denton and other brothers Abraham and Jonas Denton. Named son James, wife Jane and bro-in-law William Willis as exe. 3 Feb 1727 NY court authorized son James to execute the will. NY Wills Liber 10,

Will dated Nov. 5, 1728, Proved Nov. 14, 1728. mentions wife Elizabeth, "my dear mother Jane Denton'" exec. my father-in-law William Cornell Esq., and my uncles William Willis, and Robert Mitchell. He married Elizabeth Cornell, daughter of William of Hempstead. Will of William Cornell May 17, 1742.
