About James Dixon

James Dixson was the son of Robert Dixson jr. (or the 2nd) and a un-named Irish woman from Northern Antrim Co.,Ulster.

Robert Jr. was the son of Robert Dixson Sr.( or the 1st) he changed his spelling of his surname from Dickson to Dixson when he had to flee from Scotland to Antrim Co. Ulster after the failure of The battle of Rullion Green, it was the first and only battle of the Pentland Rising and happened on 28 November 1666 in Midlothian, The Covenanter army (Which Robert Sr. was a member) was led by Colonel James Wallace and consisted of a mixture of cavalry and infantry armed with muskets and swords. The Government army was led by General Thomas Dalziel of Binns and Major-General William Drummond; it consisted of experienced cavalry and infantry using swords and muskets.Those that survived the battle either got captured and hung/beheaded or fled to Northern Ireland as traitors to the crown.

Proudly I can say my GreatGrandfather was a traitor to the crown of England and a loyal patriot of the true people of Scotland. <nowiki>------------------------------</nowiki>

{ There is a James listed on others Geno-logy profiles as son of Robert Sr. and Priscilla Kennedy, and was also the wife of Jenet Dickson, this info is not correct, I have been looking into this for over a year and there is no correct documentation to support this. It looks like someone crossed something somewhere as none of the church or state documents ever list Robert Sr. and Priscilla Kenedy as having a son James born in 1701 and married to Jenet Dickson daughter of John Dickson on 30th November 1721 in Lyme,New London,Connecticut.}
----------------------------
The Correct info as the evidence points is this-- James was born the 3rd child in 1701 in Ulster Celliran church Parish, Tyrone, Omagh, Northern Ireland...to Robert Dixson Jr. and a unknown Irish woman of Northern Antrim Co.

Robert Jr. was Son of Robert Dixson (Dickson) Sr. (or the 1st) and Priscilla Dixson (Kennedy) and His Brother was John Dickson who was father to who would become James' wife Jennet or Jenet born 1703 in Antrim, Ulster..

(Yes that makes them 1st cosines and I find this hard to accept as the religiosity of this family coming from David Dickson and being converters would accept this but history shows that both John and Robert Jr. and all their children traveled together to America (Boston) and where a close family and that there was no scandal or disput involved between them, so perhaps James was not actually the biological son of Robert Jr. but Maybe James was a orphan of a close friend and was adopted by John Jr. and his wife, or perhaps Jennet was the daughter of Agnes but not John Dickson and was adopted by John Dickson when he and Agnes where wed. Or he (James ) did actually marry his 1st cousin and had 9 children with her of which my ancestor Thomas Dixson was their 4th child, I find this a bit off considering that religiosity of the family, unless this was permissible in coventor Presbyterian theology.)

This is but speculation as to the truth behind James and Jennet. If I can ever sort it out I will correct this info.

The paper work shows that Robert Jr. and his unkown Irish wife from Northern Antrim Co. Ulster- had 4 children all born in Celliran church Parish, Tyrone, Omagh, Ulster-- 1st= William Dixson born about 1698 2nd= Robert Dixson born 1699 3rd= James Dixson born 1701 4th= John Dixson born 1703 and died dec. 25th 1794 in Duplin Co., North Carolina...

The Name Dickson changed to Dixson around 1666 when Robert Sr left Scotland for Northern Ireland. but on some documents the spelling of Dickson is still used by this family. The Name Dixson changed to Dixon in America after the Revolutionary War, it looks like the Dickson family did not really care how it was spelled and the same family we talked about above did settle in the same area in Ct., American Colonies and some fixed the name after the Revolutionary as Dixon and some as Dickson, but the records do show if you look that it is the same extended family living in Voluntown, New London, Connecticut, America...............
