About James A. Gaugh

From Nevada Representative June 30, 1886

Run Over.

James Gaugh, a boy of seventeen or eighteen, was killed by the cars Saturday night at the second crossing east of East Indian. He had been in with others to attend the camp-meeting and was on his way home. He and John Farrington has sat down on the cattle guard to rest and wit for the others to come up, and they went to sleep. Farrington woke up just in time to roll out of the way, but Gaugh was cut all to pieces. His funeral was held Sunday and he was buried in the cemetery in the Mullen settlement.

On the same page:

--The coroner's jury which investigated the death of young Gaugh found that any suspicion that the boys had been drinking, was entirely unwarranted, and also censured the engineer for not whistling before the crossing.

From Nevada Representative July 21, 1886

--On last Sabbath afternoon Rev. R. A. Ferguson preached the funeral of James A. Gough, who was killed on the railroad some time ago, to a large congregation at the Hickory Grove school house, near the Gough residence.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: James A. Gaugh was the son of William Gaugh and Virginia A. Hart.
