The inventory of his estate mentions - homebuildings and orchard, small piece of land near house, land at Jetts Lake, meadow at Pond Meadow, right in fourth division, meadow at Mistake, two common rights, 2 young oxen, 3 cows, 6 young cattle, 13 sheep, 11 lambs, 5 swine,horse, mare, colt, carpenter tools, arms, ammunition, books, etc. - 169 pounds. It was divided as follows: the widow one-third, Joseph one-fourth, Ebenezer one-eighth, Ruth one-eighth, Mary one-eighth, Elizabeth one-eighth, and Sarahone eighth of the remaining two-thirds." >James was called "Sam'l" in his father's will according to Burleigh. This was an error, as the original reads "James" and James inherited the same land specified in the will.:Haverhill MA Vital Records to 1850 shows b. and m., name "Gild". P. 54 - "James Gile, son of Samuel Gile, was born in Haverhill, August 27, 1660 - married February 21, 1688-9, Ruth Parker, daughter of Rev. Thomas Parker, who arrived in America in the ship "Hector" in May, 1634, "sat down at Ipswich forabout a year," and then, in 1635, was one of a company, who were granted liberty by the General Court, to remove to "Quafcacanquen" and there establish a new plantation.The place was incorporated under the name of Newberry. The church gathered there was the tenth church established in the Colony of Massachusetts Bay, and Mr. Parker was chosen its first Pastor. It was from this church, that the first settlers went forth to "Pentucket" and there made the town of Haverhill. It was a very natural proceeding for the son of one of the "twelve original settlers," of that town, to formacquaintance, in the place from which those settlers came, and thus, in time, the daughter of the Newberry Pastor, became the wife of youngJames Gile of Haverhill. (Follows a brief description of the times, French and Indian attacks) He was a house carpenter by trade, as wellas farmer. The inventory of hisestate shows that he was possessed ofa considerable landed estate, amounting inthe aggregate to 160 Poundsin value. He had eight children. He died at Haverhill, April 29, 1705."------------------------------------------------------------------------------ On page 52 of the same book - "The location of the new settlement, on theMerrimac river, was originally known by the name "Pentucket". The name was changed upon the arrival of Rev. John Ward, from Essex County,England, in 1641, to Haverhill, out of compliment to his birthplace. Mr. Ward was a son of Rev. Nathaniel Ward, of Ipswich, became pastor, and continued hisministry in Haverhill for more than fifty years. Those twelve first settlerswere described as "very desirable men and good Christians." :Notes from Mary Gile Moore of Essex, Mass. supplied by Leah Wolcott (#2775)"...married Ruth Parker, daughter of Rev. Combs 1025 Sharon Dr., Glen Burnie;, MD 21061 says James m. in Andover, MA. (1/92):In the History of Newbury by Joshua Coffin, 1845, it is reported thatRev.Thomas Parker was from Newbury, co. Essex, England, and that he could not have travelled on the Hector according to evidence quoted. "In one of the ships,that arrived in May, came Mr. (Thomas) Parker, a minister, and a company withhim, being about one hundred, (and) went toset down at Agawam, (Ipswich) and divers others of the new comers." (Winthrop, vol. 1, p. 133. Subsequent record (page 313) says Rev. Thomas Parker died unmarried 24 Apr. 1677. THE PIONEERS OF MASSACHUSETTS BY Pope p. 345 says of Rev. Thomas Parker "He never married".It also says on same page "came to Ipswich in the Mary and John March 26,1634.":The Essex Antiquarian, Vol. XII - These tombstones were copied in 1905 fromthe Pentucket or Linwood Cem (the site of the original church inHaverhill). p. 11 - Here Lyeth the Body of James Gile who dyed April the 29th 1705 and in the 45 year of his age.
