On the 20 Jun 1850 at age 40 he was put to trial in Co Tipperary, Ireland, for sheep stealing and was given 7 years transportation. Convict # 2250
William (expiree stole sheep) arrived per "Robert Small" built at Newcastle 1835. Master J.H. Walker, Surgeon Harvey Morris, sailed 1 May 1853 from London and took 110 days to arrive on 19 Aug 1853. Ticket of leave 3 July 1854 conditional pardon 10 Feb 1855.
His wife Ellen followed on the 13 March per "Berkshire" with their first son. William and Ellen had 3 children.
He passed away in 7 Aug 1889 after getting lost in the bush and search party led by his son James searched for him for 3 days and 3 nights. He was found in a pitiful state on the 6 Aug 1889 and died the following day
