About James Melven Gruber

Melven Gruber, the son of Andrew L. and Teresa E. Tuley Gruber, was born near Benjamin on October 10, 1893. He was married to Ella Parker on August 26, 1915. Mr. Gruber, a retired farmer and carpenter, joined the New Prospect Church in 1911, and transferred his membership to the Canton Baptist Church when he moved near Canton. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen and a Grange member for 50 years, where he held various offices over the years. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Albert Fishback of Palmyra, Mrs. Keith Martin of Canton, Mrs. Clyde Briscoe of Fenton, Michigan, and Mrs. A. J. Bronstine of Monticello; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Bea Chancellor and Mrs. Ferdie Fishback, both of Canton; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Orange Gruber.
