JAMES HAMILTON OF TORRANCE

On 21 November 1563 James Hammiltoune of Torrence is noticed in the witness list of a charter Glasgow Protocols, protocol number 762 on p. 44

Deed of Agreement with Sir John Maxwell of Nether Pollock

James Hamilton of Torrance and his brothers Alexander Hamilton and Archibald Hamilton, together with his son and heir Robert Hamilton of Torrance, younger, are mentioned in a deed of agreement dated 29 July 1587, between James Hamilton of Torrace, on the one part, and Sir John Maxwell of Pollock and William Maxwell of Newark on the other. The land of Lechyok in the Barony of Blantyre

James Hamilton of Torrance granted a tack for the eight shilling four penny lands of Lechyok in the barony of Blantyre to Mungo Anderson on 8 January 1593. His eldest son Robert Hamilton of Torrance, younger, witnessed his father's charter. Memoirs of the Maxwells of Pollock, i, document number 164 on pp. 321-22
