"James Hamilton, second son of James H. of Barncluith ; MA; (Glasgow 1638); adm. 14th March 1649 ; confined to the parish in 1662; had an indulgence granted by Privy Council 30th Sept. 1669 ; died in end of 1684, aged about 66. He marr. 30th March 1652, Helen, youngest daugh. of John Hamilton of Udston, and had issue — John, W.S., 1682 ; Jane ; Mary ; Robert ; Archibald ; William, apprenticed to John Hay, surgeon-apothecary, Edinburgh ; Janet ; Anna."
